Mom is not the enemy, dad is not an enemy. The enemy is the enemy and he will do anything he can to destroy, steal, kill (John 10:10). I am a social worker by profession, and have practised social work in different organisations, such as the Mental Health Society, Child Welfare, Correctional Services and currently the National Prosecuting Authority of SA. Throughout my career and my 15 years of practice in the field, I have learned and have had an opportunity to meet with different people from various groups.
Every time someone will explain or come to discuss their problem, it always imitated, reflected, or redirected to their upbringing, their cognitive development and how this has helped them as individuals shape their behaviour, the way that they viewed themselves and life in general. It boiled down to the issue of family, the issue of my parents, their involvement and the impact these have had in one’s life. In such a way that I discovered that a person’s perception of life, and how they responded to life was closely linked to how they were brought up at home. Being a mother myself I have grown to be very careful of these since I have realized the impact of my actions on my children.
As you read this book, my hope is that it makes you a better parent, that it helps you recognise and improve on your parenting skills, whether you are already a parent or you are an aspiring parent with the hope to have your own kids one day.
Just think if you were asked, “how do you value your family?”, what would be your answer as you read this book? As the saying goes, love begins at home. My hope is that by the time we are done reading this book, we learn to value our families even more. Feel free to add your notes at the end. We all have a role to play in shaping a better society. The breaking up as parents doesn’t mean our families should be broken too.
