Yusra escaped war from the country of her birth, Yemen, to be a refugee in Bo-Kaap of Cape Town in South Africa.
In search of her family she bumped into a young gentleman and as a result she encountered religious difficulties and prejudices to have a meaningful relationship with a young man. On the other side, a young man, Vuyolwethu, from a chieftaincy family of Madikizela, in Mpondo land encountered similar difficulties and prejudices as Yusra. The enthusiasm and electric feeling of the community of Embhongweni Village within Mbizana Municipality of Eastern Cape in South Africa about their ‘Yure’ was beyond the expectation of Chief Madikizela’s family. As a result, the unprecedented decisions had to be taken by the Chief and his family to concede on the persuasion of the community’s elderly women to the naming of “their” bride.
Mntam continued to be a beckon of hope and light to the community of Embhongweni Village and to the entire Mpondo nation through her projects in cooperation with her husband, Vuyolwethu and ICEF.
